Merger Mania US Health Insurers
A number of mergers/acquisitions in the health insurance market are reported to be underway in the USA according to The Times (UK).
Aetna is understood to be in acquisition talks with Humana for $37 billion.
Medicaid insurer Centene is to acquire Health Net for $6.8 billion.
Anthem announced an offer to acquire Cigna for $47 billion in cash and stock which was rejected.
Last month UnitedHealth group also made an approach to Aetna.
The acquisitions are understood to be taking place in the follow up to President Obamas 2013 healthcare reforms.
